England made a solid start against scratchy Sri Lanka as Chris Woakes (39) added 92 runs with Moeen Ali.

Moeen Ali then found good support from Steven Finn as the duo added 72 runs for the ninth wicket to frustrate the Sri Lankans.

Moeen Ali remained unbeaten on 155 to lift England to 498 for 9 before the hosts declared.

Sri Lanka got off to a less than ideal start and lost three wickets with just 53 runs on the board.
